At the Global Terminal Summit held on June 28, 2018, China Mobile brought together the members of the 5G Device Forerunner Initiative to publish the Guideline for 5G Terminal Products. China Mobile and the other members of the 5G Device Forerunner Initiative signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). China Mobile Terminal Co., Ltd. together with the China Mobile Research Institute, on behalf of China Mobile, signed memoranda of understanding with 28 partners and held a signing ceremony. Rohde & Schwarz signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the 5G Device Forerunner Initiative as a representative of the T&M industry.
The 5G Device Forerunner Initiative is led by China Mobile and was launched during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2018. Its objective is to clarify the technical requirements of 5G terminals, speed up 5G terminal development, explore the paths for industrial development, promote innovation within the 5G terminal industry and help bring products to maturity. After half a year of hard work, the action plan achieved initial results.
Working on the Guideline for 5G Terminal Products provided China Mobile with the first opportunity to clarify 5G terminal requirements and to investigate, identify and define application scenarios, product types, technical requirements, current difficulties, etc. – aspects that are of major relevance to the development of 5G terminals.
