The ADAR3002 from Analog Devices is a Beamformer IC that operates from 17.7 to 21.2 GHz. This dual-polarized, dual-beam, 4-element dual-polarized beamforming IC is designed for phased array antennas. In each of the 16 RF channels, it provides an adjustable gain of 31 dB (in 0.5 dB steps) and a phase adjustment of 360° (in 5.625° steps) via Variable Amplitude and Phase (VAP) blocks. Each VAP contains a digital stepped attenuator (DSA) and phase shifter. It has a memory for 256 pre-stored beam positions with 64 beam states per polarization per beam and FIFO memory for 64 beam positions with 16 beam states per polarization per beam.
The ADAR3002 can be controlled via a 3-wire or 4-wire serial port interface (SPI) and also includes four address pins that allow SPI control of up to 16 devices on the same serial lines. It includes an 8-bit ADC for DC input and an integrated temperature sensor. This beamformer IC is available in a 176-ball Wafer Level Chip Scale Package (WLCSP) package that measures 6.6 x 6.6 mm and is ideal for mobile Ka-band SATCOM applications like air terminals, ground terminals, and maritime terminals.
