The ADMV1228 from Analog Devices is an Integrated Dual-Channel upconverter, Dual-Channel Downconverter and Beamformer RFIC that operates from 24.0 to 29.5 GHz. It combines two transmit/receive streams (2T2R) with 16 independent TX and RX beamformer channels in a 2x8 configuration supporting both single and dual polarization array designs. The on-chip Tx/Rx switches connect the upconverter RF output and downconverter RF input for each polarization into eight independent channels using 1:8 power splitters/combiners. It has options for x2/x4 LO multiplier and external filtering for spurious rejection. In upconversion mode, it includes envelope detector for LO feedthrough calibration and a single channel power detector. In downconversion mode, it has an integrated individual RX channel overload detection circuit.
The ADMV1228 features on-chip temperature sensor for RX and TX automatic temperature compensation for gain. It has internal memory for TX and RX beam positions and NVM for phase and gain calibration. This RFIC is available in a compact chip scale ball grid array package and is suitable for use in mm-Wave 5G and broadband communication application. It has an operating temperature range from -40°C to +95°C and allows heatsinking from the topside of the package for the most efficient thermal heatsinking and to allow flexible antenna placement on the opposite side of the printed circuit board (PCB).
