The AWMF-0151 from Anokiwave is a highly-integrated 28 GHz silicon quad-core IC for 5G phased array applications. The IC has eight antenna ports that can be connected to four dual-polarization antenna elements to support both horizontal and vertical polarizations in a phased array. Two common ports, one for each polarization, enable simultaneous processing of both polarizations. The IC includes all beam steering controls for phase and gain control, and operates in half duplex fashion to enable a single antenna to support both Tx and Rx operation.
This beam steering IC operates over the 3GPP n257 (26.50 – 29.50 GHz) and n261 (27.50 – 28.35 GHz) frequency bands. The AWMF-0151 is available in a 5.2 x 4.0 mm WLCSP (wafer level chip scale package), easily fitting within the typical 5.3 mm lattice spacing at 28 GHz.
The AWMF-0151 can be used to address multiple use cases ranging from infrastructure to consumer equipment. By harnessing the highest levels of integration, three generations of active antenna IC learning, and cost structures only available on 300mm diameter silicon processes, they have enabled base-stations and small cells to reach price points on par with Wi-Fi access points.
