The GNS 5851 AIS from GNS-Electronics is a Receiver Module that is designed for marine Automatic Identification Systems (AIS). It operates in Marine Band channels 87B (Ch. A) – 161.975 MHz and 88B (Ch. B) - 162.025 MHz and can be configured to statically receive either channel in a chained pair or to automatically hop between channels stand-alone. This module has an integrated sensitive RF frontend, signal processing, and a data decoder with standard NMEA AIS that can be easily connected to a host processor. It can handle an RF input of up to 10 dBm and has a sensitivity of -117 dBm. This module requires a DC supply of 3.3 V and consumes 20 mA of current. It can be controlled via a UART interface.
The GNS 5851 AIS is available in an easy-to-mount stamp hole PCB package that measures 26.0 x 15.0 x 3.3 mm and is ideal for maritime safety, shore/harbour equipment, and data loggers for internet based online marine tracking systems.
