The SM435C from Signal Hound is a Real-time Spectrum Analyzer that operates from 100 kHz to 43.5 GHz. It has a dynamic range of 110 dB, a sweep speed of 1 THz/sec at 30kHz RBW (using Nuttall windowing), and an SSB phase noise of -138 dBc/Hz@100 kHz offset. This RTSA is designed for remotely-located accurate RF data analysis at the lowest cost possible and includes a 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ port, enabling it to communicate with a PC over long distances using a fiber optic cable. It uses Signal Hound’s Spike software that provides device controls, signal visualization display, and data export tools. Spike offers a variety of analysis modes and provides specific tools for EMC pre-compliance testing, interference hunting, and digital demodulation, among others.
Signal processing in the SM435C is distributed between a powerful Intel FPGA and an external PC having an Intel Core i7 processor. This spectrum analyzer can be readily interfaced, using its local API, to an automated monitoring system or to automated test equipment. It is available in an enclosure that measures 10.45 x 7.20 x 2.80 inches with active or passive cooling options. The analyzer can operate on AC/DC supply and consumes less than 33 W of power when sweeping or streaming I/Q.
