The ADMV1139 from Analog Devices is a Silicon on Isolator (SOI) based Upconverter and Downconverter with an RF frequency from 37 GHz to 48.2 GHz. It has been optimized for 5G applications and consists of an integrated upconverter (a transmitter), downconverter (a receiver), and the LO chain with 4× multipliers in one chip.
Both the upconverter and downconverter offer 2 modes of frequency translation – in IF mode, it converts from and/or to a complex intermediate frequency (IF) signals while in baseband mode, the transceiver directly converts from and/or to single-ended or differential baseband in-phase/quadrature (I/Q) inputs and outputs.
This chip can also be used as an image rejecting downconverter providing an image rejection of 26 dBc and has a square law power detector to monitor power levels at mixer inputs. It has an on-chip RF switch which provides the option to combine the transmit and receive RF ports together for time division duplex (TDD) applications. It can be controlled via a 3 or 4 wire SPI interface.
The ADMV1139 is available in a 131-ball BGA package that measures 6 x 6 mm and is ideal for point-to-point microwave radios, radar & electronic warfare systems, instrumentation & automatic test equipment (ATE), and millimeter-wave 5G applications.
