The HMC8364 from Analog Devices is a Quadband Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) that integrates four independent, narrow-band VCOs with overlapping frequency bands to provide an operating frequency from 18.1 to 26.6 GHz. It is designed to offer wideband capabilities without compromising on phase noise performance and includes resonators, negative resistance devices, and varactor diodes. This GaAs MMIC provides consistent tuning sensitivity across the entire frequency band and simplifies the synthesizer loop design filter. The tuning port is common to all VCO cores for a simpler design of the phase-locked loop (PLL) feedback path. The monolithic structure of the oscillator offers very low phase noise, optimal temperature stability, and is immune to vibration and process variation.
The VCO operates over a 5V DC power supply and delivers an output power of up to 4 dBm while consuming 99 mA (typical) of current. It is available in a 40-lead LFSCP package that measures 6 x 6 mm and is suitable for electronic test and measurement, industrial and medical instrumentation, point-to-point and multipoint radios, aerospace and defence, and wireless communication infrastructure applications.
