Mm-wave Components and Technologies for 5G Applications

With work well under way on the design and development of the first mm-wave 5G demonstrator system, a much quoted goal is to have a network capable of providing seemingly infinite capacity and negligible latency. Operation at mm-wave frequencies allows the use of much wider channel bandwidths and facilities achievement of the ambitious data rate targets. The likely operating bands and the options and trends for the realisation of the mm-wave components are discussed, illustrated with examples of mm-wave components designed by Plextek RFI for deployment in the first mm-wave 5G demonstrator systems.
