Optus, one of the major network operators in Australia, has chosen to continue its mobile network benchmarking efforts with test equipment from Rohde & Schwarz. Through a competitive tender, Rohde & Schwarz has been selected by Optus to replace their existing 4G systems and to provide multiple 5G mobile benchmarking systems. The equipment will be used to measure end-to-end performance of mobile networks, in voice, video, and data modes as well as for signal coverage. These measurements will enable continuous improvement by Optus to the quality of experience seen by their subscribers.
Rohde & Schwarz (Australia) will provide Optus with multiple backpack-mounted test solutions suitable for mobile network testing. Testing measures the real user’s experience by using smartphones for handling voice, video, and data to validate the network performance and coverage. To enable Optus to optimize the performance of their 5G mobile network, Rohde & Schwarz will deliver:
- R&S Freerider 4 backpack test systems that contain up to 12 smartphones and 4 scanners, which provide simultaneous benchmarking of multiple networks.
- QualiPoc Android, a smartphone-based network optimizer, provides service quality tests for voice, data, video streaming, and Apps such as Facebook.
- R&S TSMA6 autonomous mobile network scanner with an integrated high-performance PC, which measures the RF network coverage.
- Smart Analytics software, which delivers deep insights into the network performance. It uses a machine-learning methodology to predict requirements for network configuration and support.
Rohde & Schwarz is once again at the forefront of technology innovation with this Optus contract, which reflects global RF expertise and the recognized quality of 5G mobile network testing solutions. They have solutions ready for the next generation of mobile networks that will support enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), massive machine-type communications (mMTC), and ultra-reliable, low latency communications (URLLC). R&S can support the entire mobile network lifecycle for performing measurements in the lab, in production, and the field.
