During the inauguration of Huawei's Intelligent Mining Innovation Lab in Taiyuan, Huawei founder and CEO, Ren Zhengfei highlighted the importance of open trade policies. During the event, he said, Huawei is ready to transfer its 5G technology including source code, hardware design secrets to facilitate global innovation. Moreover, as per industry report, the company holds the highest number of patents related to 5G capabilities followed by US chipmaker, Qualcomm.
“We are open to transferring all of our 5G technologies, not just licensing production to others. This will include source programs and source code to all the hardware design secrets as well as the know-how and the chip design,” said the Huawei Founder.
In the past US, Australia, UK and some European countries banned Huawei equipment because of security issues. Also, the US government added the company to the entity-list as well as restricts American companies to do business or supply. Calling for open trade policies, Zen said both the US and China need to develop their economies. “Everyone needs this (5G). As humanity keeps making progress, no company can develop a globalized industry alone. It requires concerted efforts around the world,” Zen added.
On the other hand, the Indian government suggests telecom companies keep their source code and the main software that controls equipment in an escrow account for security purposes.
