Nitero Introduces a 60 GHz WiFi Module for 802.11ad

NT4600Nitero, a developer of low power 60 GHz CMOS solutions has announced a 60 GHz WiFi product targeted at mobile devices - The NT4600 is the industry’s only end-to-end IEEE 802.11ad™ solution that meets the power, performance and form-factor requirements of mobile applications.

The NT4600 supports low-latency 4K display and peer-to-peer wireless connectivity, along with seamless use of productivity applications in a mobile office. While 802.11ad solutions sacrifice in-room performance, the NT4600’s built in support for beamforming deliver full-room performance throughout the office, living room or conference room. Nitero is currently demonstrating the NT4600 to select partners and customers and will start production shipments in 2015.

It has been designed on Samsung’s advanced 28nm RF process based on 28nm HKMG LPP technology, which is 10x more power efficient than other 802.11ad solutions. The 802.11ad standard is the next generation of Wi-Fi. It will allow for the convergence of PC, gaming and entertainment platforms onto a single mobile device. Due to the power and performance requirements of the 60 GHz devices, the solutions have soo far been limited to PC’s. However the NT4600 should change this.

The market for 60GHz Wi-Fi is expected to pick up in 2015 due to its adoption into increasingly powerful 4K-capable smartphones. Nitero will be one of the few companies that will have 60GHz Wi-Fi modules ready for mobile products next year.
