CRFS Develops Lightweight RF Sensor for Real-Time Spectrum Monitoring and Geolocation up to 18 GHz

CRFS has developed the RFeye Node 100-18-LW, which is an advanced RF sensor that provides real-time signal detection, spectrum monitoring, and RF signal recording (I/Q data), capture, and geo-location from 9 kHz to 18 GHz. This sensor delivers high performance similar to RFeye Node 100-18, but in a smaller, lightweight form that is well-suited for all types of autonomous systems and operations needs. It comes in a low size, weight, and power (SWaP) package and provides a cost-effective solution for fast and wide area deployments.

This RFeye Node 100-18-LW's reduced weight extends UAS flight time, enabling high-performance electronic warfare (EW) sensors to be used as payloads on fixed-wing UAVs, large and medium-sized rotary drones, and tethered drones. Additionally, it can be integrated into unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). It can also be used as a standalone sensor.

This RF sensor is based on the Intel E3845 quad core CPU. It has an instantaneous bandwidth of 100 MHz and scans across the spectrum at a sweep speed of 390 GHz/s with a resolution bandwidth of 2 MHz. This sensor has a noise figure of 21 dB and a phase noise of -126 dBc/Hz. It samples the I/Q data at a sampling rate of 125 MSPS with a resolution of 16 bits per channel.

This RFeye Node 100-18-LW also has an uprated GNSS chipset that supports the L1, L2, and L5 bands, even in GNSS-disrupted environments. Three RF ports are available on this sensor to provide GNSS support. This chipset provides connectivity with 4 constellations and requires an external 10 MHz reference. An external hard disk drive can be inserted and operated via USB interfaces to store I/Q data (optional) for later usage.

This RFeye Node 100-18-LW requires a DC supply voltage from 10 V to 30 V and consumes less than 45 W of power. It is available in an IP65-rated Aluminum housing that measures 222 x 52 x 187 mm and has switchable SMA input connectors.

An easily deployable capability extender for air, maritime and land operations. With its compact and lightweight form factor, the RFeye Node 100-18 LW is an excellent RF sensor alternative for wide area surveillance, border security monitoring, communications intelligence, and RF (I/Q) data collection.
